ETH ZURICH / SPACE GEODESY / GNSS / AI

About Me

I am Zhenyi Zhang, a PhD candidate in the Space Geodesy Group at ETH Zurich, supervised by Prof. Benedikt Soja.

My research builds on a strong background in space geodesy, atmospheric science, and machine learning. My doctoral work focuses on physics-informed machine learning for tropospheric modeling, integrating geodetic observations, meteorological data, and physical knowledge. I developed the first global AI-based models for asymmetric tropospheric mapping functions and direct slant wet delay prediction.

I also contribute to the Earth System Foundation Model (ESFM) project and the Swiss AI Initiative. My contribution to ESFM focuses on integrating satellite water vapor observations into the model. More broadly, I explore physics-informed frameworks that combine multi-source satellite observations and meteorological data for atmospheric modeling and prediction, with applications in weather forecasting.

Previously, I received my MSc and BSc from Wuhan University. During my master's studies, I was fortunate to be mentored by Prof. Yidong Lou and Prof. Weixing Zhang. My research focused on high-precision processing of ground-based and highly dynamic airborne GNSS observations, as well as the generation of GNSS-derived tropospheric products. This work supported applications in data assimilation, numerical weather prediction, and InSAR atmospheric correction.

Seeking opportunities for Fall 2027. I am looking for postdoctoral and industry research positions in AI for Science, Earth-system foundation models, and geodesy / atmospheric science. I also welcome academic collaborations. Please get in touch.
